
An early interest in taking pictures started with a Kodak Box Brownie 120, an Olympus OM-1 and today with the Nikon D70S digital SLR. As a Past President, but still a current member of the Howick Camera Club so many friendships have been made with fellow photographers having similar passionate interests in gaining skills for better photography. Also a member of the Photographic Society of NZ (PSNZ) who promotes the enjoyment of photography with some 62 affiliated Camera Clubs throughout NZ. Married to Kay with a family of two daughters and three much photographed grandchildren!
This image taken at Mission Bay in Auckland one stormy late afternoon was selected in the final ten, from 220 plus entries, for the 2007 Auckland Art Festival billboard competition. Following public votes cast at the Auckland SkyCity Exhibition Hall the image was voted a close third placing. This same image was one of 350 Acceptance Awards from over 40,000 entries at the 2007 12th China International Photographic Art Exhibition and from world entries at the Osijek Fotoklub 2007 Salon Exhibition in Croatia.
An Acceptance award at the 2007 New Brighton Annual New Zealand Photojournalism Competition was of a local hard rubbish collection team of husband and wife captured in action!
Previous successes have been achieved in the annual Mazda Motor Corporation Japan international “Miles of Smiles” calendar competition which was discontinued in 1994. Thousands of entries from around the world every year but only 15 Gold and 45 Silver awards were granted each year.
The PSNZ “New Zealand Camera” is a showcase of outstanding photographs produced by members of PSNZ and has become a much sought after photography annual. These 1994 and 2004 images were acknowledged accordingly in 2000 and 2004 issues.
